Muriel Rita Fazande Neves, born July 12, 1929 to the parents of Leon Fazande and Hilda Bachemin Fazande, departed this earthly life on November 23, 2016. Muriel married the love of her life, the late Antonio Neves. From their blessed union were born their beautiful five children: Sonja Neves Evangelista, Antonio Jr., Juliette Maria, Dale Joseph and Ricardo Michael Neves, from whom came her most loved grandchildren: Susanna Evangelista Marino, Auntea Muhammed, Armando Evangelista and Jordan Randolph, from thence came her great-grandchildren: Amaya, Amari, Afuw and Roman. Muriel was a true soldier, warrior, fighter and giver, who loved the Lord with the depth of her soul. She never met a stranger. She lived life vigorously, fighting illnesses her entire life, but it never stopped her. "A Bonifide Steel Magnolia," she was. She fought the good fight, and, while doing so, she cared for her mother, grandmother and aunts at the end of their lives. She tragically loss her only sibling, Alvin Fazande and her beloved sister-in-law, Bernadette Chambers Fazande in Katrina, from which she never truly recovered. Her love for babies exceeded that of most, always carrying a baby on her hip, or holding on to one in her lap. She loved her trips to California, a dream of hers from childhood. There she relished in its beauty and enjoyed the company of cousins whom she loved so dearly. How she loved watching wrestling with Antonio and Dale. Their cheering in the home could be heard by her neighbors. You could always find her in the kitchen, cooking daily for her family. Her gumbo was the finest, as were her red beans and rice. Raised and lived all of her days in the 7th Ward, you could always find her at the Circle Food Store and of course, at her cousins' meat market, "Bachemin's." When Krauss department store closed she cried as if we had loss a family member. Thanks to Father David Begany for his spiritual guidance through our most difficult times, to the nurses and staff at Passages Hospice, to Gisele Wiener for her relentless love and kindness and to all of the family and friends who were there for us throughout her illness and last days of her earthly journey. Your support has been immeasurable. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Muriel's life will be held at Corpus Christi/Epiphany Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11 AM. Interment St. Louis No. 3. Visitation 9 AM IN THE CHURCH.
