Obituary for Thelma Melerine "Tattoo" Russell

Thelma Melerine Russell, affectionately known as "Tattoo," peacefully passed away at her residence on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the age of 96. She was the dear wife of the late Forrest Russell Sr. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Melerine Sr; her mother, Antonia Campo Melerine; her son, Forrest Russell Jr. (the late Gnella); her sister, Josephine Rodriguez (the late Arnold). Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rosalind "Ann" Evans (James) and Sylvia Evans (Emile Sr.) Thelma will also be fondly remembered by her surviving siblings, Elvina Menesses (the late Alfred) and Johnny Melerine Jr. (Carmella). Thelma was a life long resident of St. Bernard Parish and spent the majority of her time with us on Delacroix Island. She has been the root to an enormous family tree, nurturing, caring and inspiring her 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Tattoo will be remembered as a beautiful selfless soul. She has left behind a grand legacy and will be missed greatly by all of her loving relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family; Priest and Parishoners of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church are invited to attend the funeral. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet LA 70092 on Friday, September 28, 2018, at 12 noon. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Bernard LA. Visitation 10 AM IN THE CHURCH
