Daphne Marie Hargett earned her wings and peacefully passed away at her home on May 3, 2020. She was born on October 22, 1964 to Roosevelt and Velma Hargett. She attended John F. Kennedy High School.

Daphne worked tirelessly at growing a very successful entertainment venue for the past 25 years. She dedicated herself to making a difference in her community. Daphne was a voice for the voiceless! She made numerous contributions to youth education and the underserved. A unique soul, Daphne was an extremely funny, outspoken and a giving person. She will be greatly missed by all who were graced by her presence.

Daphne was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Hargett and brother, Wallace Taylor. She is survived by her beloved son, Gyasi Hargett, father, Roosevelt Hargett, grandson, Gyasi Jr., sisters Toni Favors (Herman) and Beverly Hargett, girlfriend/best friend, Anitra Floyd, aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins. Daphne was a faithful member of Greater Saint Stephen Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Debra B. Morton.

A drive through viewing will be held on May 9, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a private funeral service and burial.

Daphne had a special place in her heart for all her loyal Vibe supporters! In lieu of flowers, please make a Cash App donation to the Gyasi Hargett Jr. Scholarship Fund to: $GyasiH.

Daphne defied the odds in every area of life. She was the life of the party and the joy of life to her family! Her adventurous spirit amazed us as well as gave us hope to reach for the stars. She lived with purpose and made many accomplishments in her business endeavors. The following words express just how much she means to all of us.

You were fragile
Yet, always the fiercest fighter
You smiled even in pain
You showed love til the end
Never bent in your principles or values
And, a person always knew where they stood with you
It is a quality that we loved most about your beautiful soul
It gives us strength to carry on and forge our greater selves

My deepest condolences to Gyasi, Anitra, Mr. Roosevelt, Toni and the entire Hargett Family.

I met Daphne over 25 years ago and we became the best of friends. We had totally different lives—she was an entrepreneur, owner and operator of a nightclub, and I was a young lawyer trying to navigate through the legal profession the best way I could. Funny thing, as different as our lives were, we found away to mesh and became very close friends. Daphne was humorous, a jokester, an adventurer, and, of course, she was always late! But, if I needed her—like when I was running for judge—she was always there.
I will cherish the friendship and the sisterly bond we shared, and I will miss her. I’m sure my sister/cousin @jamilahanshaw met her at the pearly gates early Sunday morning and walked her in. 🙏🏾💔😭

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. If you need anything, I am here. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
