Obituary for Gangwi Richrdson-Alston

Gangwi C. Richardson-Alston received her wings on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Algiers where she was a pillar and leader in the community. Born on October 22, 1973 to Leroy and Barbara M. Richardson, Gwangi was educated in St. Charles Parish Schools and received her B.A. in Substance Abuse and Sociology from Southern University at New Orleans, a Masters of Social Work from SUNO and a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University. She followed her gift and formed Gwangi's Counseling, Research, Training and Social Services Institute in 2012. She also owned Millionaire Mindset, LLC, managed Queenes Property Management and was president of Gwangi's Family Services, a nonprofit corporation. Gwangi was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. In 2018 she gave birth to her prince, Douglas Johnson, III. In addition to her son, She also leaves to cherish precious memories, her siblings, Yvonne (Dwayne) Lebeaux, Edna (Charles) Jones, Leroy, Jr. and John Richardson; special nieces, Mequana and Alexis, along with a host of other beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, family, God-Child, co-workers and clients. Also mourning her loss is her former husband, Lawrence Alston; devoted friend, Salathel Cole and Sorors of Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. A funeral service (with limited seating) honoring the life of Gwangi C. Richardson-Alston will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 3 p.m., Pastor Donald Robinson, Officiating. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, everyone in attendance must wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Interment private. A drive-through viewing will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Please remain in your vehicles.
