Clementine Victoria Baptiste Cager departed this life at the age of 86 on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 3:30 a.m. in the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. She was born in New Orleans, LA to the late Oscar Samuel Baptiste and Clementine Boutte Baptiste on February 12, 1934. Clementine, who was affectionately known as "Clem", was the youngest of 7 beautiful daughters. While growing up in the 7th Ward of New Orleans, She attended Valena C. Jones Elementary School and graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School in 1953. From there, she majored in elementary education at Xavier University of Louisiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1957. Clementine taught at Marie C. Couvent, Medard H. Nelson, McDonogh 32, William T. Frantz and Valena C. Jones Elementary Schools throughout her illustrious career, which spanned from 1957 to 1994. While Clementine was entering the teaching profession in 1957, she married the late Henry Clay Cager, III. From that union came three daughters, Leslyn Harris, Bethel Cager and Gabrielle Cager. Clementine was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of Corpus Christi/ Epiphany Catholic Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Clementine was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bernadine Demery, Anna Mae Santa Cruz and Dorothy Guter. She is survived by her three daughters, Leslyn Harris (Michael), Bethel Cager and Gabrielle Cager; five grandchildren, Michael Harris, Jr., Matthew Harris, Mayia Harris, Leslyn Ann Harris and Victoria Rose Cager; three sisters, Audrey Francois, Genevieve Garnett and Helen Firmin, as well as a host of Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Due to COVID19, a private service for family only will be held. Everyone in attendance will be required to follow all restrictions. You must wear a face mask and practice social distancing. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Clementine Victoria Baptiste Cager will be held at Corpus Christi /Epiphany Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 10 a.m., with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9 a.m. Father Henry Davis, S.S.J., Celebrant.
