Obituary for Marvin Burton

Marvin Burton was born on July 9, 1953 to Georgia Mae Stepter Burton and the late Leon Burton, Sr. He departed this life surrounded by his family in Hiram, GA on Friday, January 8, 2021. Marvin was born in Independence, LA and relocated to New Orleans with his family at the age of 4. He loved growing up in New Orleans and was well known and loved around his seventh ward neighborhood. While attending John McDonogh High School, he met his high school sweetheart, Roslyn Blue in 1968. They were united in Holy Matrimony in 1971 and were blessed with three beautiful children during their 25-year union. Marvin was known for his entrepreneurial spirit. Determined to leave a legacy for his children, he started many small businesses in his lifetime. His most notable endeavor was Service Master by Burton Janitorial Service, which he owned and operated for many years. In his later years, Marvin came out of retirement to take a position working in the Administrative Office at City Hall where he remained until his health began to deteriorate. In addition to his father, Marvin was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Kinchen and Zola Mae Hookfin Burton, Able and Lubertha Ruffin Stepter. He leaves to cherish precious memories his mother, Georgia Mae Stepter Burton; three children, Marvin Burton, Jr., Cordell "Toot" Burton, Sr. and Arealandra Burton; five grandchildren, Areion Snipe (Norris), Destiny Cameron, Cordell Burton, Jr., Legend Lamar and Rivers Lamar; three great-grandchildren, Amiya, Amyrea and Aazan Snipe; four sisters, Dorothy "Lorraine" Glenn, Linda Montegut, Carolyn Burton-Miles (Moses) and Regina "Jeannie" Burton; four brothers, Leon Burton, Jr., Arthur Lee Burton, Sr., Leroy Burton (Brie Anne) and Bernard Burton, Sr. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, who will forever remember him and the legacy that he left behind. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to share in a Celebration of Marvin's life. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Mr. Marvin Burton will be held at St. Raymond/St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 2916 Paris Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119 on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 10 AM. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, only 50 will be allowed in the church. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Strictly enforced.
