Obituary for Louis Fields

Louis Fields, Jr. age 73, affectionately known to all as "Maurice" was born to the union of the late Louis Fields and Alice Baptiste Fields on May 4, 1947 in New Orleans, LA. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Houston, TX after a lengthy fight at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Maurice attended Booker T. Washington High School and soon after was drafted into the United States Army where he served honorably in Vietnam. Always a quiet and reserved man, he believed in having fun while keeping life as uncomplicated and as stress free as possible. Never the big talker, he was well understood and always present as that one person who made the greatest of problems seem minimal. Being the only boy of five, Maurice was never called spoiled by his sisters, just extremely loved and cared for. Eating was one of his favorite past times, but he also had a love of cars, in particular a 1967 sky blue mustang convertible which was his pride and joy. After his military discharge, Maurice went on to have a career as a welder and boilermaker at Kaiser Aluminum. Family was always his priority and he made each family member feel as though they were most special to him which sometimes created laughter when they introduced themselves as "His Favorite". Maurice joins his sisters, Helena Fields Paul, Adrienne Fields, Amy Fields Williams and Carol Ann Fields as they surely greeted him with open arms. He also joins daughter, Diedre Ambrose who also preceded him in death, as well as a host of other family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Richard Louis Fields (Natalie), Wanda Marie Fields, Troy Maurice Fields, Monique Kellie Jackson and Toni Marie Adams; grandchildren, Sidney Fields, Kylie Lewis, Taylor Fields, Jordan Fields, Jayden LaBeaud, Johnny Noah, Jr. and Mariah Hudson; great grandchildren Kayse and Kayson Cormier, as well as a host of his favorite nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His life and presence left an indelible impression on all who knew him and his passing will always be remembered not as an event of sorrow but rather a celebration of life. A Celebration Service honoring the life of Mr. Louis "Maurice" Fields, Jr. will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2 PM. Visitation 1 PM in the Chapel. Interment will take place on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, LA 70460.
