Miriam 'MeMe' Jean Smith Bailey was born May 10, 1943 in New Orleans, LA to the late Annie Mae Monroe Smith and Ashton Smith, Sr. She was educated in the Orleans Parish Public School System and graduated from Walter L. Cohen Senior High School. Miriam was a faithful employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Orleans. In 2005 she relocated to Houston Texas and remained there until her death. She was 78 years old. On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 Miriam transitioned from her earthly body and went on to be with her Lord and Savior. She leaves behind to cherish precious memories, to her only son, Ernest W. Bailey, Jr; seven grandchildren, Ernest W. Bailey III, Emone E. Bailey Sr., Brandon W. Dwyer, Davon and Dontae Pugh, Jayda and Rodney Atkinson; Eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, James M. (Lessie) Smith and Ashton Smith Jr., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, family and friends. In addition to her parents, Miriam was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Bailey, Sr; daughter in law, Alanna Pugh Bailey and sister, Gwendolyn S. Hunter. A Home going Service honoring the life of Mrs. Miriam 'MeMe' Jean Smith Bailey will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 1 PM. Visitation 12 noon in the chapel. Interment Private.
