Joseph 'Shine' Alfonso Jr., a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, was born in New Orleans, LA on September 12, 1927 to the late Joseph W. Alphonso, III and Marie Kelty. He passed away peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the age of 93, with his loving wife, Helen Morales Alfonso by his side. Mr. Alphonso is the father of Joseph W. Alfonso, III, Pasqual Alfonso (Bertha) and Carla Powell (Kristopher). In addition to his parents, Mr. Alphonso is also preceded in death his siblings, Robert, Jack, Esther, Betty and Alice. Brother of John Alphonso (the late Louise) and Eugene "Toby" Alphonso, Sr. (Kathleen). Proud grandfather of Rebecca, Kristen, Taylor, Dawn, Megan, Joe, Celeste and Melissa. Also survived by numerous great and great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mr.Alphonso served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He also served his community as a St. Bernard Parish police officer. Anyone who knew him knew his love of cruise ships, buffets and gaudy Christmas decorations. He loved life and his family and lived for his wife. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of the late Mr. Joseph 'Shine' Alphonso, Jr. will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Road in St. Bernard, LA on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 12 noon. Interment St. Bernard Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation 10 a.m. in the church.
