Obituary for Rita Hart

Mrs. Rita Jane Moore Hart transitioned to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2022. She was born on November 19, 1948 to the late Walter and Mary Moore. Wife of the late Lionell P. Hart. Mother of Betty Jean Hart and Michele Hart Duvernay. Sister of Lorraine Surtain, the late Johnny Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Marguerite Moore and Frank Moore. Mrs. Hart accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Greater Evergreen Baptist Church by the late Rev. Horace Brown. As a lifelong, dedicated member of Greater Evergreen, she participated in several ministries and loved singing in the choir. Mrs. Hart graduated from George W. Carver High School where she was on the dance team and briefly attended Southern University at New Orleans. Early in her career, she worked as a nurse's assistant for Flint Goodridge Hospital and St. Claude General Hospital. She was later employed as a paraprofessional for the Orleans Parish School System, where she served at various schools, such as Thomas A. Edison Elementary, Joseph S. Clark High, Laurel Elementary, Alfred Lawless High and McDonogh 19 Elementary. After several years in the education field, Mrs. Hart retired in 1990. She was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mrs. Rita Jane Moore Hart will be held at Greater Evergreen Baptist Church, 2243 Clouet Street, New Orleans, LA 70117 on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 12 Noon, Pastor Terrance Ranson Sr., Officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 AM in the church. Interment will take place at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Dr., Slidell, LA 70460 on Monday March 14, 2022.
