Obituary for Hewitt Bieniemy

Hewitt Bieniemy, age 73, formerly of New Orleans, LA passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 in Atlanta, GA at Emory Hospital. Mr. Bieniemy was born in New Orleans, LA to the late Ida Mae Cummins Bieniemy and Ollie Bieniemy, Sr. on August 7, 1948. He attended St. Augustine High School and graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School. He was employed by the United States Postal Service where he retired in 1999. Mr. Bieniemy was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served from 1968 until 1971 in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a member of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club and an avid New Orleans Saints fan. He was baptized at St. Joseph Free Baptist Church in New Orleans, LA. In addition to his parents, Hewitt was also preceded in death by two siblings, Ollie Bieniemy, Jr. and Carmen Bieniemy Peters. Mr. Bieniemy is survived by a daughter, Nijelnia Bieniemy of Terrytown, LA and a son, Kofi Bieniemy, Sr. (Lisa) of Alexandria, LA; siblings, Tammy Bieniemy of Gretna, LA, Eric Bieniemy, Sr. (Barbara) of Atlanta, GA, Jerome Bieniemy of Houston, TX, Alton McCloud (Elizabeth), Gary McCloud and Ronald McCloud, Sheila B. Dennis, Diane Bieniemy, Phyllis Lee and Theresa McCloud and an aunt, Joyce Fortier all of New Orleans, LA; Two grandsons, Kofi Bieniemy, Jr. (Mealsha) and Ricardo Baron. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to either of the following charities in the name of Hewitt Bieniemy, disabled veterans of America or The American Cancer Society. A Celebration Service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Hewitt Bieniemy will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10 am. Interment Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA.
