Obituary for Samuel Gayden

Samuel "Sammy" Leroy Gayden, age 97, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Chateau De Notre Dame Nursing Home in New Orleans, LA. Samuel was born on August 22, 1924 to the late Silas and Letha Otis Gayden. He retired from Jancke Concrete Company as a concrete mixer driver. Samuel was a loving and devoted father and a self-educated philosopher with an everlasting thirst for knowledge and a wonderful sense of humor. His beloved wife of seventy plus years, Ruth Gayden and his siblings Dudley, Andrew, Fred Henry, Willie, Estelle, Elizabeth, Bertha, Mavis and Joseph Gayden preceded him in death. He is survived by his only child, Sharon G. Howard; granddaughters, Kelley H. Rouse (Strutha) and Krystal H. Henry (Norbert); great-grandchildren, Sydney C. Rouse, Sanai C. Rouse, Nicholas C. Henry, and Madison Z. Henry. The family would like to thank the staff of Chateau De Notre Dame for the caring and excellent health care provided throughout this time. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Samuel "Sammy" Leroy Gayden will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 10 AM, Rev. Ronnie London, Officiating. Interment Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 8200 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA 70003. No repast. Visitation 9 AM in the Chapel.
