Obituary for Eve Theresa (Smith) Reeves Dalmas

Eve Theresa (Smith) Reeves Dalmas, 92, the eldest of four children, was born on February 9, 1930, in New Orleans, LA to the union of Paul Smith, Sr. and Leona Josephine Gabriel. She was raised and attended schools in New Orleans. After graduating from Dillard University, she worked as a teacher, then spent many years working as an occupational therapist at Charity Hospital and later ran a beauty salon. Eve passed away of natural causes on May 5, 2022. In 1949, Eve married Walter Joseph Reeves, Sr., and to their union was born a son, Walter Reeves Jr. on August 30, 1950. Years later, Eve married Eugene "Genie" Dalmas. She was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints football team and loved to play cards games with her friends. She also liked to travel, cook, and regularly attended mass until her health began to fail. Eve was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Leona; her loving husband, Genie; son, Walter; brothers, Clark J. Smith, Calvin V. Smith and Paul Smith, Jr; sister-in-law, Ruth Smith and niece Stephanie Smith. She is survived by her grandson, Walter Joseph Reeves, III (Lori); granddaughter, Eve Theresa Reeves; stepson, Kevin Dalmas (Sistine); stepdaughter, Terry Praylo (Chris, Sr.); great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Teagan Reeves; sister-in-law, Adele Marie Williams Smith; nieces, Cheryl Fitzgerald, LaMarriol Smith and Leona Claudette; nephews, Paul Smith, III, Glenn Smith, Clark Smith, Jr., Carl Smith and Carlos Smith. Also survived by a host of other relatives and devoted friends. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of the late Eve Theresa Smith Reeves Dalmas will be held at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 5621 Elysian Fields Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122 on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 12 noon. Interment: St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery. Visitation 11 a.m. in the church. For the health and safety of all, everyone in attendance is asked to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
