Gladys Marguerite Epps Cheri, the Cheri Family Matriarch and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA transitioned at the loving age of 95 on Monday, May 9, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and worked for a short period at St. Mary's Academy. Gladys was joined in Holy Matrimony to Fernand Joseph Cheri, Jr. in 1946 and to this union seven children were born. Gladys was a former member of the Knights of Peter Claver Lady's Auxiliary Court #60, Our Lady Star of the Sea Choir and The Archdiocese of New Orleans Gospel Choir. Survivors include her children, Lorena Cheri, Brigid C. Martin, Marvell C. Baudy (Maurice Sr.), Bishop Fernand Cheri, III, OFM, Richard Cheri (Cynthia), Kevin Cheri and Anicia Cheri; her only living sister, Lillian Epps Duplessis; sister-in-law, Gloria Cheri; fifteen grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Gladys Marguerite Epps Cheri will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1835 St. Roch Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117 on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at St. Louis Cemetery No 3. Visitation 8:30 AM in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
