Obituary for Derell Malik ""Dut"" Brooks

Derell "Dut" Malik Brooks, age 26, a native of New Orleans, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Derell was born on January 9, 1996 to Shantel Brooks Mitchell and Damon Mitchell, Sr. In addition to his parents, survivors include his siblings, Deyonce Mitchell, Tamia Gray, Damon Mitchell, Jr. and Damon W. Mitchell; grandparents, Sandra Keller Brooks (Jerome) and Detroit Brooks, Sr. (Kanako); aunts, Tiffany Jacox (Kendyl) and Trenise Mitchell; uncle, Detroit Brooks, Jr. (Reynell) and companion, Brechele Gordon. Relatives and friends; Pastor, officers and members or affiliates of Franklin Avenue, Greater Hill of Zion and Greater Liberty Baptist Churches; Employees of the US Postal Service, New Orleans Jazz Museum and Fellow Musicians are invited to attend the funeral. A Celebration service honoring the life of the late Derell "Dut" Malik Brooks will be held at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 2515 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117 on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 10 am. Interment St. Louis Cemetery No. 2. Visitation 9 am in the church. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that all attendees wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
