SHIRLEY COYE OBITUARY
Shirley Mae Neyland Coye passed away at the age of 73 on June 20, 2022. Shirley was born October 12, 1948, in Gloster, Mississippi to Dorothy Louise Kyles Wilson and Millard Neyland Sr. In her early teens, Shirley moved with her family to New Orleans and attended Joseph S. Clark High School. Upon graduation, she attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. While attending SUNO, she met and married Fernando Coye. To this union, two children were born, Jara Coye (Carlos) Encalade and Jihan Coye (Ryan) Robinson. Shirley dedicated her life to raising her daughters and really enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She enjoyed shopping, going to the movies, eating out at restaurants, and loved to bake her delicious macaroni and cheese. Shirley is survived by her husband, Fernando Coye, her two daughters, Jara and Jihan, and her loving grandkids Xara, Xola, and Eve, who she was affectionately known as Dearie Bee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Louise Kyles Wilson, father, Millard Neyland Sr. two brothers, Millard Jr. and Robert Lee Neyland. She is also survived by three sisters, Willie Elma, Evelyn Marie, and Vera Deloise, and one brother, Clarence Edward, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be on Wednesday, June 29th at Charbonnet Labat Funeral Home: 1615 St. Philip St., New Orleans, LA 70116. Viewing is at 9am and service is at 10am followed by burial at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave. New Orleans, LA 70112.
