Obituary for Sylvia Blanchard

Sylvia Ann Curtis Blanchard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 28,
1950. She was the second eldest child of the late Roy Alfred Curtis and Delores Ricks
Curtis. Sadly, Sylvia departed this earthly life peacefully at home on Monday, August 1,
2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Sylvia was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and attended Carver Senior High School.
She was also a member of the of the Next Generation Original Morning Star Church
having accepted Christ at an early age.
Many will remember her time working at the Multi-Purpose building in the ninth ward
serving as a secretary for former New Orleans City Councilman, Johnny Jackson.
Following her time there, she worked at the Orleans Parish Conveyance Office until her
retirement in 2005.
She loved music including her favorite artist, Frankie Beverly. She enjoyed celebrating
and having a good time. She was always going somewhere and had many interests
including being a devoted Saints fan, shopping at Stein Mart, attending festivals, any
kind of travel, and all things that included leopard prints.
Sylvia was a classy lady, very sophisticated with great taste. She loved and adored her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as, her close circle of friends.
She was the family matriarch and was always encouraging her family to excel and to
find success in all they do. A dedicated and devoted wife to the late Anthony Blanchard,
they loved each other dearly and deeply.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Tina Curtis Russell (Melvin Russel, Sr.) and Tracey Bailey,
Sr. (Anna Bailey); her grandchildren, Toni Curtis (Edward Volpi, Jr.), Keoca Curtis, Tracell Curtis, Rodney
Curtis, Janea Bailey, and Tracey Bailey, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Breyanna Curtis, Breea Curtis,
Edward Volpi III, Travis Jordan, Jr., Anthony Volpi, Rodney Curtis, Jr., Kanye Curtis and Karo Trufant; her
siblings, Tyrone Curtis (Ida), Glenn Williams (the late Charles Reed, Sr.), Rona Sanders (Guylan), Jerrod
Hayes, Paulette Grimes (Norris), Antoinette Curtis (Cynthia), Kim Curtis (Kenneth Gardner), Deidre
Curtis, Natalie McAllister, and Valerie Lee, along with a host of nieces, nephews, longtime friend,
Debbie Warner, first babysitter, Mildred Turner, friend, Ronald “Boyfriend” and grandson “lil man”.
Sylvia Ann Blanchard was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Blanchard, son, Troy Curtis,
parents, Roy Alfred Curtis, Sr. and Delores Ricks Curtis, her brother, Roy Alfred Curtis, Jr., god-daughter
and niece, Brandi Marshall, and nephew, Jerome Curtis.
Visitation and Funeral will be held today, Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Next Generation
Original Morning Star Church, 3536 St. Ferdinand St, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70126,
Reverend Tyrone Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and conclude with the
funeral at 10:00am.
Arrangements entrusted to Charbonnet-Labat-Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Phillip
St, New Orleans. Louisiana. Interment will be at Providence Memorial Park and
Mausoleum.
