ROCHELL BROWN OBITUARY
Rochell Lewis Brown was born on February 16, 1951 in New Orleans, LA to the late Rudolph "Buddy Boy" Lewis, Sr. and Rosemary Gardette Lewis. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at a young age. Rochell was a proud graduate of the 1969 Class at Xavier University Preparatory School, which she affectionately called "The Prep". She then went on to enroll at the University of New Orleans. At UNO, Rochell became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She wore her letters proudly and enjoyed the sisterhood and service that came with it. After college, Rochell met and married the late Louis Brown, Sr. and to this union, two children, Louis, Jr. and Matthew, were born. Rochell was a lifelong educator, serving students at various schools around the city, but spent the bulk of her career at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School. After retiring in 2020, Rochell enjoyed working on her many craft projects, all things sewing, cooking for whoever wanted to eat and hanging with her favorite cousin, Acquanetta and best friends, Marie and Karl. But nothing warmed her heart more than being "Nonna", which was a title she took extremely serious. From staying home with Mackenzie, watching Tre on the football field and Mattie on the baseball diamond, nothing was more important than her three grandkids. Rochell leaves to cherish her memory, two children, Louis Morris Brown, Jr. (Carlita) and Matthew Brown, Sr.; three grandchildren, Mackenzie Brown, Louis "Tre" Brown, III and Matthew Brown, Jr; five siblings, Rudolph "Rudy" Lewis, Jr. (Nikki), Ronald "Ronnie" Lewis, Renauld Lewis (Sueyuan), Robin Polite and Raynell Evans. She also leaves Janet Carter and Mikeela James, who she called her bonus daughters, as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Mrs. Rochelle Lewis Brown will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4700 Pineda Street, New Orleans, LA 70126 on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10 am, Father R. Tony Ricard, Celebrant. Interment: St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery. Visitation 9 am in the church. Repast: Hynes Parkview School, 4617 Mirabeau Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70126.
