JACQUELINE ROYSTER OBITUARY
Jacqueline "Jackie" Marie Haynes Royster, age 78, was born on April 4, 1944 in New Orleans, LA. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Sacramento, CA. Loving wife of the late Thomas M. Royster. Daughter of the late Lucille and Freddie Haynes. Mother of Michelle Johnson, DeRhonda, Shawn and the late John Haynes. Sister of Tyrone, Burnell Calvin, Barbara Haynes, Elza Robertson, the late Errol Haynes and Mona Calvin Thomas. Jacqueline accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Word of Faith Church for many years. She held fast to her faith and relied on prayer and her trust in God to sustain her throughout her life. Jacqueline "Jackie" was a product of the Orleans Parish Public School System and a 1962 graduate of George Washington Carver High School. During the early parts of her adulthood, she worked as a dental nursing assistant and in 1977 she prepared herself for a career change and wanted to serve in her community. Her love for the community considered to be the 9th Ward led her to secure employment with Desire Community Housing Corporation, where she retired as a Certified Comprehensive Housing Counselor, with over thirty (30) years of dedicated service. She enjoyed her work and was well respected by her colleagues, along with others whom she provided Homing assistance to. Jacqueline will be dearly missed by all children, brothers and sisters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mrs. Jacqueline "Jackie" Marie Haynes Royster will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10 am. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122. Visitation 9 am in the chapel. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are encouraged.
