DOROTHY CLOUD OBITUARY
Mrs. Dorothy M. Payne Camel Cloud, a retired LPN, transitioned peacefully at her home in Violet, LA on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Daughter of the late Louise F. and Peter Payne, Jr. Devoted wife of the late Larry Cloud, Sr. Loving mother of Ernest Camel, Jr. (Elissa Smith) and Curtis W. Camel, Enice "Terrell" Temple (Kenneth) and Larry Cloud, Jr. (Tammy) of Houston, TX. Sister of Marguerite Payne, Rose P. Lloyd (Herman) of Indianapolis, IN, Henry Payne (Wanda) of Tucson, AZ, Gwendolyn P. Tucker ("Bobby") and Linda P. Franklin (Ricky, Sr.); the late Leonce Francois, Theresa P. Green (late Samuel), Peter, III, Lawrence "Steve" (late Angel), and William J. Payne (Gloria). Grandmother of Dana, Dawn and Curtis Camel, Jr; ShaQuann Harris, Darius, Jacolby and Brittaney Powell, Hunter Temple, JaKye and Larry Cloud, Jr., Thaddeus Robertson, Ashley Juarez and Joshua Patterson. Great-grandmother of Curtis, III and Savannah Camel, Michael Malter, Jr., Ja'Nai Burton, La'Shay and Ah'Zora Powell, Arya Juarez, and Dylan Robertson. Godmother of Sandra Langlois and Monte Mason. Also survived by a large family of loving nieces, nephews, a multitude of cousins and friends, including her life-long, faithful friend, Bernice Lee. In addition to her husband, parents and siblings, Dorothy is also preceded in death by her grandparents, Peter, Sr. and Aries Hughes Payne, Leonce, Rose Leonard Francois, long-time companion, Willie Wright, Sr; sister-in-law and friend, Elenora Mason. Mrs. Cloud was raised in Braithwaite, LA and was a graduate of Phoenix High School's Class of 1960 and Sidney Collier Vocational Technical School. A gifted and anointed singer, she was president of her church choir and a member of the First District MBA Chorus. She worked for many years as a dialysis nurse at Tri-Parish Renal Center, giving TLC to her patients whom she loved like family. Relatives and friends; Pastor, Officers and members of St. Andrew, St. Luke and Bethlehem Baptist Churches of Braithwaite, LA, Second Missionary Baptist, Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center of Violet and all neighboring churches; alumni of Phoenix High School's Class of 1960; members of FDMBA Chorus; former patients and employees of Tri-Parish Renal Center; Staff and employees of Louisiana News Co., Dwyer's Collision and Restoration of Slidell, Exxon Mobil-Baytown, Old Dominion and Comcast of Houston, TX are invited to attend the funeral. A Celebration Service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mrs. Dorothy M. Payne Camel Cloud will be held at Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center, 5816 E. Judge Perez Drive, Violet, LA 70092 on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 12 noon, Bishop Henry Ballard, Jr., Host Pastor, Rev. Dr. Michael W. Jiles, Sr., Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Officiating. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA. Due to Covid-19, face masks and social distancing are encouraged.
