JEROME HICKS OBITUARY
Jerome "Big Man" Hicks, Sr. The beloved son of the late Joseph M. Hicks, Sr. and Lenora Moore Hicks. Jerome was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. Educated in the New Orleans Public School System. Jerome was a proud member of the McDonogh #35 Alumni, Class of 80'. Raised in the Catholic Church, he later began attending Springhill Missionary Baptist Church and others to hear the word of God. Employed at Avondale Shipyards for twenty-four years before the shipyard closed, Jerome always took pride in his work. Jerome was a father, brother, companion and friend to many. Jerome leaves to cherish his memory three children; Jerome Hicks, II, John D. Salters, Sr. (Keiyanna), Jiovanna D. Salters. Life partner, Rhonda Salters. Four brothers; Joseph M. Hicks, Jr. (Valerie), Wayne Hicks, (Regina), James Hicks, Sr. (Amy), Hal T. Hicks. Three sisters; Wanda A. Hicks, Cassandra Hicks and Collette Hicks. Five grandchildren; Keivan Wilson, Adonis Joiner, John Salters, Jr., Terionne Wilson and Aubri Salters. One uncle, Primas (Norman) Jaegers Sr., a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends, members of Ray Avenue BC, Springhill MBC, and surrounding churches, also employees of Huntington Ingalls Avondale Shipyards, Wal-Mart, Unlike No Other Beauty and Barber Shop, McDonogh #35, Ja'Kel's, LTC Sidney Collier and Delgado Colleges are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM, at Ray Avenue Baptist Church, 4712 Ray Ave., New Orleans, LA. Visitation at 9:00 AM. Interment: Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale, LA. Due to Covid-19, for the health and safety of all, everyone in attendance is asked to wear a face mask and practice social distancing at all times.
