CHARLES DAVALIE OBITUARY
Charles Ray Davalie, famously known as "Charlie Whop", passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the age of 49. " Charlie Whop" found love for rap music over 30-years ago while growing up in New Orleans 9th Ward. He was no stranger to putting music to cassette tapes and CD's and had a flair for rhythm and rhymes, as his childhood friends proclaimed. He could always be found livening up any party with his lyrics. "Whop" as he was called, made a great influence on New Orleans cultural bounce music. He is known for his popular song entitled "Charlie Whop". Some of his famous lines can be heard in songs collaborated with many New Orleans bounce rappers. Charles Davalie was born in New Orleans, LA on June 1, 1973 to Phyllis Davalie and the late Charles Ray Haley. He leaves to cherish his memory, companion, Jennifer Franklin; mother, Phyllis Davalie; children, grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his father, Charles is also preceded in death by brothers, Anthony and Brent Davalie; children, Justin Laird and Aamiyah Marsh; maternal grandparents, Juanita Johnson and Ben Gardon; paternal grandparents, Ardella Haley and O'C Haley. A Homegoing Service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Charles "Charlie Whop" Davalie will be held at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, 2515 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117 on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10 am. Interment Providence Memorial Park. Visitation 9 am in the church. Due to Covid variants, face masks and social distancing strongly encouraged.
