LAVERNE HOUSTON OBITUARY
Laverne Houston passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the age of 63 in Gretna, LA. Laverne was born on January 13, 1960 in New Orleans, LA to Evelyn Jiles Houston and the late Alvin V. Houston. She attended Denneel Elementary School and the ARC of Greater New Orleans and was a participant of Comforts of Home Adult Day Health Care for many years. Laverne loved to dance, sing and listen to music. She worshipped at One Hope Church in New Orleans, LA. She will be dearly missed by her beloved family, including her devoted mother; siblings, Dianne Hogan (Andrew), Calvin J. Houston Sr. and Darryl Houston (Edith Garner): as well aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her father, Laverne is also preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Ruby Boswell Jiles and Israel Jiles, Sr.; Lucy and Arthur T. Houston and nephews, Shammond Vaughn and Dustin Houston; aunts and uncle, Veronica, Ruby, Rosemary, Rhoda, Delores, Joyce, Muriel, Madeline and Arthur Israel, Jr. A memorial service honoring the life of the late Laverne Houston will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 12 noon.
