Joseph "Butsie" Van Trahan, Jr., peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 1st, 2024 at the age of 93. Butsie is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Virginia and their children, Joseph, III (Cheryl), Thomas (Sandra) and Janine (Thomas); seven grandchildren, Michelle (Scott), Joseph, IV, Jeanne (Benjamin), Thomas, Jr. (Megan), Lauren (Charles), Adam (Amber) and Layne (Cassidy); nine great-grandchildren, Leia, Victoria, Chanler, Gavin, Briggs, Avie, Addison and Mason; a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. Butsie is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Joseph; siblings, Linda, Rodney, David, his long-lost twin, who he longed to meet and great grandson, Dawson. Butsie was born on June 1, 1930 in New Orleans, LA. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country in the Korean War. In 1965, Virginia and Butsie relocated to Chalmette, LA where they resided for 40 years. Butsie dedicated much of his time in Chalmette to mentoring young boys through the Boy Scouts of America and participating in various activities at Chalmette High School. Following Hurricane Katrina, Butsie and Virginia moved to Gonzales, LA where he would reside until his death. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Joseph "Butsie" Van Trahan, Jr., which will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Road, Chalmette, LA 70043 on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 11 am.
